Club History

The Kiwanis Club of Glenview - Northbrook was chartered in 1965 as one of 7,700 clubs in 80 countries.  We have expanded our club motto to "Serving the Children, Youth, Adults, and Seniors of  Glenview, Northbrook, the greater Chicago area, and the World".

‚ÄčIn 2016 we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of our club.  Our Photo Album contains some images from that dinner event at the Valley Lo Sports Club in Glenview.

The club began with twenty-five members and has grown to its current membership.  One of the founding members was

          HARRY  VOLKMAN (photo above)

the retired weatherman for several Chicago television stations.  As an active member, Harry loved telling a good joke (non-sexist of course), leading us in song, and inducting new members.  Harry became an honorary member shortly before his passing.  Rest in Peace, 1922-2015.

Over the years our club has held many fund-raisers and service events.  We help in our communities in a variety of ways, including sponsoring youth groups (two high school Key Clubs and three middle school Builders Clubs), and providing college/university grants and scholarships to members of the Key Clubs.  Our annual service project sponsorship of Pizza Mania benefits the Wesley Child Care Center of Glenview and we make substantial contributions to the Youth Services of Glenview - Northbrook organization as well as support for the Northfield Township Food Pantry in both food collection and financial contributions.

The club has enjoyed a rich history over the years with members coming from many fields: accounting, banking, dentistry, education, financial services, law, management, medicine, public elected service, publishing, television broadcasting, the trades, and others.
